Wine has been produced on the site of Saint Cosme since Roman times, evident by the ancient Gallo-Roman vats carved into the limestone below the chateau. Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1992, making a dramatic shift to quality, adding a négociant arm to the business in 1997, and converting to biodynamics in 2010. 100% syrah.

The 2018 Cotes du Rhone is 100% Syrah, sourced from the Gard (on the right bank of the Rhône) and Vinsobres (left bank, higher elevation). Violets, black olives and cassis and blueberry flavors provide terrific varietal expression in a medium to full-bodied package framed by silky tannins.

In the nose aromas chocolate and cocoa, with black currants and plums. The palate explodes with rich mouthfilling blackberries, black currants, plums and dark fruit. The long, seductive finish is filled with hints of black licorice and has firm, round, yet supple mouthfilling tannins.
